A Clinical Investigation of Tuberous Sclerosis in Children

Abstract
|
|
|
Forty cases of tuberous sclerosis were clinically investigated during the last 13 years from March 1980 to Semptember 1993 and we had gotten the following conclusions.
1) Tuberous sclerosis is multisystem disease characterized by the triad of mental retardation, epilepsy, and adenoma sebaceum.
2) The infant and early childhood may have depigmentation with infantile spasm as a diagnostic clue.
3) Computed tomography or magnetic resornance imaging of brain is essential for diagnosis as finding of periventricular calcification even in patients who have no calcification in plain skull x-ray.
4) It would be necessary to check up the patient reguarly and long term follow up because the patient may develop tumor in various organs.
